Help with hearing aids sought

A young local man is in need of financial assistance to purchase hearing aids. Due to a limited family income, there are no resources available to cover such a large expense.

If you would like to provide financial assistance to help purchase the hearing aids, please refer to case #62.

The Brighter Christmas Fund is a nonprofit charity directed by a board of human service agency volunteers who represent the schools, social services, mental health, Senior Adults Association, Christians United Outreach Center (CUOC), Center of Living Home Health and Hospice, Regional Consolidated Services and the Salvation Army. The Courier-Tribune absorbs nonprofit costs and volunteers supply manpower so that all funds donated can be applied to the requests.

The purpose of the Brighter Christmas Fund is to solicit funds from the community to be used to fund special needs that are not addressed by existing human service agencies. If a request is received for an item or service that is currently being offered by an existing human service agency, the request will be denied by the Brighter Christmas board and forwarded on to the appropriate agency. For instance, a request for food or clothing would be referred to CUOC or Christmas for children to The Salvation Army. Examples of special needs approved by the Brighter Christmas Fund board in past years include: A new well for an elderly resident who would have been forced to move; assistance with transportation costs to bring an accident victim back to Randolph County for treatment; a generator for a child with a life-threatening illness; and, special learning toys for a disabled child.

Those who wish to help applicants may donate money, as well as specific goods and services. Often applicants may need delivery services, home repair or other materials for such repairs. Anyone interested in donating goods or volunteering their services should call (336) 318-6100 and leave a message. A board member or volunteer will return your call. The newspaper will publish a list of benefactors after the Brighter Christmas Fund board has completed its review of all applications and distributed the funds. Donors who wish to remain anonymous need only indicate that preference.
